Freelance Photographer-Commerical. How much to charge?

Freelance Photographer-Commerical. How much to charge?
I'm wondering how much I should charge for a days work as a photographer shooting commerically? I normally do portraits so i'm not 100% how much this area of work charges. I'm in south east wisconsin/Milwaukee. I got ask how much i would charge by someone who had seen my work at school, so any ideas? Thanks My focus in school was Commerical Photography, I just hadn't found work and its SO easy to do portraits. (so many people wanting good pictures!) I also do weddings. But now that I finally found some commerical work, and my profolio being commerical, I don't know how to charge.

Here's a good calculator for finding out what your daily rate should be: http://nppa.org/professional_development/business_practices/cdb/cdbcalc.cfm You can also look at what other photographers in your field if interest charge.

When I calculate my prices it's based on the following elements... 1. My Knowledge :: If I'm limited in a field, I'm going to take that into concideration. How long have I been doing something? Do I have any professional training in that specific field? 2. Cost of goods :: How much will it take to produce teh final product? Concider cost of film (if you use it), printing costs, equipment costs (maintenance on equip - upgrades - etc), 3. Time :: How long am I going to be on this project? How much money am I losing by taking this job? Am I sacrificing time with my family to do this job? 4. Competitors :: How much are competitors charging? Can I do as good as them? Can I undercut them and still make a profit? Am I better than them? 5. Cost of Living :: Am I making enough to cover my life? Will I cover a payment on a car? Can I afford to go out to dinner a few more times? Also - bare in mind Commercial Photography isn't like portrait photography, it's an art in itself. I could never switch from Portrait to Commercial (and i've been doin portrait for 10 years nwo) and do the work a commercial photographer could produce whose been in the business 5 years. Take some time to read up on it. Below is a link to a GREAT set of commercial photography books: http://www.amherstmedia.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=CM
