Milwaukee is great. We moved to CT from there. Wisconsin/Milwaukee was my home base since I was a kid. Still have family there. They have an amazing art museum, beautiful lake front, lots of cultural stuff going on all the time. Festivals at the lake front all summer long. The University in Milwaukee is great and has good theatre, film and lecture series going on. They had a series called Science Friday for years for kids/families - may still be happening. People are super nice, the city is clean and pretty. One drawback is that it is pretty segregated and crime has been a problem in the past several years. As much as I love the area I can't bury that. I don't know what your situation is but I would suggest looking at homes in the villages just north of the city - Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Bayside, Fox Point, etc. The schools are quite good. University School is a private school that I think is pricey... Check out Montessori or Waldorf if you are interested in alternative education for your kids. Be sure you focus on family activities and extracurricular activities to keep the kids out of trouble and wandering due to boredom - there are a lot of distractions for a bored kid. Oh, and be prepared for COLD weather. Cold in CT is nothing by comparison.

I was born in Milwaukee and live not all that far away. It is lovely and lively but it was voted the Most Racist City in America not too long ago. But that depends on the people you meet. It has lots teathers and my dad worked in MPS schools for a long time and I turned out great. Milwaukee has good German and Greek food.
